Cerro Santa Lucía, Santiago

In honor of Martin Luther King day, well not really, we too had a day off! After going to some Ministerio to validate our student visas, la Sadie, la Britty, and I went to Cerro Santa Lucía, located in the heart of Santiago, to take in the views. Here are a few pictures, including my first blog appearance...tanner than when I first arrived, I hope.

 And, from the back.

Me, Brittany, and Sadie, a little sweaty.

Marcha de las Prostitutas: My first protest...and a feminist one at that!

Okay, this may require some context:

The mayor of Nuñoa (the area where I live, shamefully!) called the Internado Nacional Femenino (a local all girl's school) a puterío in a radio interview. Basically, a whore house. In the central plaza on Friday evening, students, parents, and outraged, politically conscious santiaguinos (oh, and a gringa) turned up in front of the Municipal Building to protest. Here are some of the highlights!

Note caricatures of a naked Alcalde Sabat, in yellow, and the mayor of Providencia in red.

Translation: I am a whore, and what?

Naked or clothed, we run our own lives.

Los carabineros. Notice, the one in the middle is a woman!
